Si trova nella parte alta del paese e sovrasta le frazioni di Diano e Calvisi essa fu eretta verso la fine del 1700 in seguito ad un evento miracoloso che li accadde.

Si racconta che ad un pastore Giovanni Sposato, residente nella parte alta dell'attuale Calvisi, sarebbe apparsa la Madonna in sogno, indicandogli un luogo nel bosco dove andare scavare.

Dallo scavo venne fuori un quadro, poi venerato come divino, raffigurante la Madonna di Monserrato.

Tale evento suscitò molto stupore nella gente di Scigliano tanto che si decise di costruirci una chiesa ed il quadro che fu trovato dal pastore venne sistemato nella parte alta dell'altare maggiore.

Questo quadro venne insignito di corona di oro per concessione del Capitolo Vaticano.

Recentemente, vista la posizione dove la chiesa è ubicata (fuori dal paese), per motivi di sicurezza tale quadro è stato sostituito nell'altare con una copia, il quadro originale è stato così spostato in un luogo sicuro dove può essere facilmente custodito.

Annessa alla chiesa fu eretta dal Pio Sacerdote di Scigliano D. Giuseppe Arcuri attorno al 1790  la rinomata "Casa d'Istruzione" ed esso stesso fu il primo benemerito Rettore, attualmente in tale parte della costruzione è ospitato l'Hotel-Ristorante "Ginnasio".

All'interno della chiesa sono custodite le reliquie di diversi santi e le spoglie del martire cristiano San Giustino che è custodito in una teca in una navata laterale della chiesa.

Ogni anno la seconda domenica di luglio viene celebrata la festa della madonna di Monserrato e la sua statua viene portata in processione in tutte le frazioni del paese.

The Church of Monserrato towers above the hamlets of Diano and Calvisi.

A miracle took place on the very spot upon which the church was erected in 1700.

As the legend goes, a shepherd named Giovanni Sposato, who lived in the highest part of Calvisi, dreamed that the Madonna pointed out to him a place in the woods that he should reach and there start to dig. Upon waking the shepherd went to that very spot, began digging, and his efforts brought to light a painting of the Madonna of Monserrato that would, from then on, be worshipped as a sacred icon.

This caused a great stir among the people of Scigliano who decided to build a church on the site.

The painting, which has been granted the golden crown by the Capitulary of the Holy See, was majestically hung above the main altar.

Because the Church of Monserrato is on the outskirts of the town, it was judged safer to move the precious painting to another location.

A copy has been put in its place. Father D. Giuseppe Arcuri became the principal of an educational institution ( Casa di Isruzione Educativa ) built in 1790 and affiliated with the church of Monserrato.

In recent years, the school-building, long ago abandoned, has been turned into the hotel-restaurant Secondary altar“il Ginnasio”.

Within the church there are relics of many saints and the mortal remains of the Christian martyr Saint Justin, preserved in a glass case in one of the aisles.

Every year, on the Sunday of the second week of July, Scigliano celebrates the feast of the Madonna of Monserrato with a procession winding through the hamlets of the town.
